I say go production. Custom cues are not all that they are cracked up to be; there are some real quality production cues available today.
I play with a Schon LTD1122 w/ leather wrap. It is 19.25 oz. (lightest avail. for this model) and I have two shafts; 1 with a Triangle tip that I use everyday, and a backup shaft that has hardly been used and still has the standard Schon tip on it.
Schon cues (and many production cues) have interchangable shafts. You're daily playing cue will get lots and lots of milleage, and you can not expect to keep the same shaft for the life of the cue. For my cue, I can just order a shaft and they ship it. It will fit perfectly, and hit the same as the one that I have. I love this feature of production cues. There is no down time sending the butt away to have a shaft matched up to it.
Also production cues are a better value. They are made in higher numbers allowing them to reduce the price to stay competative with other manufacturers.
As far as games, I play 9-ball and one pocket.
