I mean a pool cue butt. I've got a custom Schmelke cue that has a very narrow butt. It sorta feels like holding a big magic marker. Some people have told me to use the type of leather wrap that is made for baseball bats, or to use a tennis racket wrap.

One advantage to a narrower cue butt is that you tend not to hit as hard, but I think I would like to increase the size. Any thoughts?

If looks don't matter to you, and you would like something reversable, consider clear electrical heat shrink tubing. Something like this.

http://cgi.ebay.com/3-4-BLACK-3-1-RATIO-HE...=item5636fc1fbe

It will be tight and as long as you are quick about it, the heat from one of these should not effect your butt.

PS I have seen 30mm wide clear heat shrink tubing in Korea, I am sure that Korea is not better then the US and it can be found there :-)

There are several online cue repair websites & retailers of cues that do mods & repairs. I would get it proffesionaly done IMO. If the cue plays well for you its worth the cost. I think you can buy a bigger butt & forearm on some sites. This might be more cost effective for you.

Cue butts used to be bigger than they are today, more butt heavy, and 57" long, and we used 20-21 oz cues, with ivory ferrules and soft tips.

Today all of that has changed, we are using 58" cues, lighter, 18.75 to 19 oz, soft ferrules and very hard tips. The butts are also smaller. How a butt feels would depend on the size of your hand, and the length of your fingers. Mike Massey has hands like a gorilla, mine are small, and my fingers short. I like a small butt, in a cue, and in a ho. Now if yo name is Rastus, youse gonna like dem fat butts fo show. If you have a normal sized hand, then my advice, is learn to adjust and get used to the thinner butts, IMHO, they are better.

Find a gook joint where they all play billiards, where you will be the only round eye in the joint, and there will not be an English sign over the door, go in, many of them use these rubber foam sleeves they slide over the butt, buy one from them. The problem will be to find somebody hu savy & speakie english to tell them what you want. Or just point and grunt at one and pull out some dollar bills. Begin by saying, Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
ahhhhhhhhh want one. Selle me one.

No matter what they say, you half it, if they say, ten dollar, you say, no can pay 10 dollar, too much, only pay 5 dollar. Be firm.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I just tried out a "Tourna-grip" tennis racket wrap. It's a little tacky and gives some added thickness.

Perhaps I could get used to the thinner handle. My hands are not that big but right now it feels like the cue might slip out of my grip.

I've played at one Asian pool hall here in NYC, Space Billiards. They are the most expensive in the area at something like $30/hr. Nice tables but that's outrageous.

I have never had that cue brand but, read they were decent cues for the money. Glad the wrap helped some. NYC is a very expensive place! They might be paying 6-8 K a month for rent on that pool hall though. It takes a lot of square footage for them tables.

Schmelke is a U.S. manufacturer who makes custom-length cues. I bought a custom-length cocobolo butt from them and married with a Predator 314-2 shaft. Plays great. I don't think the butt makes THAT much of a difference. And Fast Larry says that despite all the hype about shaft technology, the majority of playability is determined by the tip.

FL SAY: yO, if you like a Fat butt, dude, take up bowling. Or checkers in the park, there are a lot of sports where you sit on yo fat ass. But none tops Sumo. I have been to Japan and seen this up close, these guys are incredible. My kind of sport, you lay around and eat meat, drink all the beer you can, and you become a big star.

The standards were always very high, but then, oh no, say it aint so Joe? What's this shit?

Any time you have people betting on the outcome of sporting events, the hoods try and fix all of them that they can. Remember, they fixed the baseball world series once. They have been fixing snooker events in England.
