Have you guys seen the Nick Varner cues? I was in the front of the pool hall yesterday and this cue was out of its cage.
The clerk I guess was showing it among others and didn't put it back.
OK It had Beautiful points,CNC I'm sure, holly or some white wood, not ivory, with an inlayed turquoise "paste inlay",inside the white wood inlay.
The shaft had that feel like it was treated with that special " cue slicck or silk" and was next to amazing........
I didnd't want to hit it because A I own enough cues and B what would this do to my exspensive cues to buy a cue for 125.00 list that looked like that!
Goodby, high end cue market except for collectors........the newbies have choices we never had. Remember that crap they called cues that usu to be in the discount stores!
How can they sell so cheap? Oh I know , "slave" Chinese labor that is paid 25cents an hour.
Will these greedy American own import companies have anyone to sell anything to after a while? Not everyone can go to college and be a doctor or stock broker...........
We use to have a middle class that made things and lived a good life...now there all made in other countries.
Boy, Our local Budweiser sold out to In Bev and did people start losing there jobs.....St. Louis pretty soon will look like a Ghost town with all the empty stores.....
All thats left is Walmart,Lowes,Home Depot, Walgreens, Costco, and Lexus,Honda,Toyata, dealers.
Wait till the Chinese cars hit the U.S.A.
Haiti will look like Las Vegas compared to some of these american cities, pretty soon....

I have a Varner and it was certainly more than 125.00 but was not within what you'd call the high end. I paid @ 350.00 for it. Seems to be a decent cue. I can't say that I don't care much for imported items as most of what I own is in some portion (if not all) imported from somewhere such as vehicles, electronics, etc.. If I were to tout that I didn't care for imports but yet I owned them, that would certainly make me a hypocrite which is not what or who I am. I own imports because it's what I can afford at the time. On the other hand, I would give anything to have something that is genuinely American made whether it be a cue, a table, a car, etc.

However; I do wish that American manufacturers would stop outsourcing to other countries and bring it back to a "Made in America with American Pride" mentality and still make it affordable to those of us who have to stay within a fairly tight budget.
Yet, despite the look on my face, you are still talking.

Sarcasm. Just one of my many talents.

Sorry about making you all think the cue was CNC...Nick (Varner) was on the phone today and he will be at the pool hall tomorrow on his way to Iowa and stated that the cue in mention was a decal inlay.
Thats how good it looked to me.........but the shaft still is bitchin.....Crawdad

My Nick Varner sneaky pete shoots great. A nice cue for the money for sure. I need to get a softer tip for it though as the one on it appears to be dried out now.

The varner cues are made special in Taiwan for him . Anyone can place an order and design your own line of cues , with a minimum amount . The import cues are very cheap , more you buy the cheaper the price . For an entry cue to a person who can't play well they are ok . I'm a cue maker and don't care for import cues . I know Nick and he is a smart man and a real Kentucky Colonel ... can't knock him from making a living .
Life is short , so play hard . If you don't shoot the balls in , you don't get paid . It's not the amount , it's the principal .

going back to the post about american manufacturing....I too wish more stuff was made here, but the truth is, the trend of overseas manufacturing is not going to stop.
Lets say I make a cue with american labor costs, I have to sell it for $500. The Chinese cue is the same quality but sells for $100. Are american buyers really going to pay 500% more just for the USA label? the fact is most will not, thus the american maker goes out of business, OR starts outsourcing.

only when every country in the world has the same labor costs as USA will it end (dont hold your breath)

Tarrifs on imports you say? OK now both the chinese and american cues costs $500, so the american company is "protected". Is this really a good thing for the guy who doesnt have $500 for a new cue, but could come up with $100? Personally, I would like both the $100 and $500 cues available for sale, let me make the choice which to buy.

The facts are the USA has to move on from a manufacuring-based way of life, and move toward more high tech jobs, there is no other choice, its the natural evolution of our society...
