should i put my chin on my cue or stand with my head higher? i feel more comfortable with my head up a bit.

If your body allows* place your chin within 1mm of the cue stick. The closer your eye is to the bed of the table, the more pronounced any difference in the CB roll from what the shooter expected. You should stay down on the shaft until the CB has made contact with the OB so you can see if the CB impacted where you expected, and that the OB headed in the direction you expected. Moving you head before this point in time is a sure way to stay confused about the physics trnspiring on the table. (that is you can't see the minutia when you head is in motion). Also, having your head all the way down places your sholder in a position to more smoothly stroke the cue.
(*) most of us older guys and gals can't get that far down, so get down as far as you can comfortably play for at leas 1 hour. I have my chin about 9 inches above the stick, and Im closing in on 58. Back in my college days I could get down on the stick.
