Choose the shot depending upon who you are playing.

Game is 9 ball, you either got played safe to here, or came up short and hooked yourself. Either way you are in deep trouble of losing from this spot.
SHOT 1, THE JUMP SHOT.

I am a tour pro, and if I am playing another tour pro, he can get out from under a rock. Even though my odds are high I can long bank and make a hit on the 6, the odds are also great he will get some kind of shot and run out on me. I will choose a very aggressive shot to try and win and shake him up. I can jump over a half balls width using my 2nd jump cue, the Popper I carry for only close up shots like this. Clearing one balls distance I can do 99% of the time. I jump over the 9, pot the 6 in side marked A, pray for a shot on the next ball and try and run out. If I do not have a decent shot after making the jump, I could always play safe. If I miss the jump, I could roll lucky and he might not have a good shot. But this is a shot, for a pro, or a very advanced highly skilled player.

SHOT 2, The intentional foul and take away the easy combo.

I was watching two lady 2’s playing 9 ball, both I have been watching for 2 years and their high run is 2. They only run 2 when they have 2 ducks. So neither of them has ever made a 4 ball out. The lady began to line up the long bank to hit the 6. As we were friendly and had played a few games before, I stopped her and said, learn something new today. Your chances of hitting that 6 with the bank are 10-20%, I have seen you bank. Even if you hit it, you probably won’t drive it to a rail. When the 9 is set up in a dead easy combo like the 6-9 is, even a 2 level can make that shot. So you do not take the risk on the long bank. You do not have to shoot at that ball, you can take an intentional foul, and break up the combo. Just cut the 9 down table and when you do this kind of shot, 2 cardinal sins to never do. Don’t scratch, plot the path of your cue ball, and don’t set up a later combo off the 7, be sure the 9 is safe. You opponent gets cue ball in hand, she runs 2 and misses, and you run 2 and win, because you played smart. Moving the 9 ball down table is to insure yourself an easy out after she makes 1 or 2 and misses. This is a shot that requires no skill; it just requires you to be smart.

Now if she was playing a 4 or 5 skill level player, the shot would change and she would put the 9 up table where I put the CB, and the CB down table where I put the 9. Now at least you make the guy run up and down the table covering more distance and increasing his chances of a position error. My decisions are make always taking into account the skill level of my opponent.

I already know this lady is dumb as a rock. When she had been playing about 6 months and was going nowhere, she asked me, should I play 9 ball. I said, no, you’re in your 70’s just picking up this game. It’s too hard for you; shots are too long and tough. Stay with 8 ball which gives you easier shorter shots, and only when you begin to run 5 balls in a row every day, then take up 9 ball. She asked me about 5 questions, I answered all 5, and she turned around and did just the opposite of what I told her to do. From then on, when she asked me a question, I would say, I dunno?

Yes, you cannot teach old dogs new tricks, they are old and stupid and senile and they do not listen to anyone. She takes up 9 ball, and in the last 1.5 years, I have never seen her get out from the break in less than 25 innings. She has no draw, stop shot, no English, she just follows to the next ball and see’s no other options. She spent money on a new Meucci, but not on lessons. She was a HR of 2 with a house stick; she is a HR of 2, with a $400 moooochie.

So did she take my shot I gave her, no, she went with her long bank, missed the 6 cold, the other lady lined up the 6-9 combo and she lost. I waved goodbye, good luck and walked out. Never try to teach old people, dogs, or your wife anything. They will drive you sterile.

When I ride with Yo Sarah, I am constantly saying, you are following too close, you changed lanes and did not signal, Nice California stop, where you slid through that stop sign, maybe you can stop twice at the next one to make up for sliding through this one, that’s the idea, just straddle and keep driving down the center of that white line that divides two lanes, we are going in circles, I knew it was only a matter of time until you got lost, Yo Sarah, trucks are passing us on the right, young people are honking at you and waving you the Italian salute, you can’t go 55 on I-85, everyone goes 85 here. She says, the speed limit is 55 and I won’t break the law. I go, we are gonna get shot if you keep this shit up. We are gonna die. Nobody drives fuckin 55 on I-85. She say, I do….
It got so bad, I was riding in the back seat, figuring they would shoot her, and not me. Young people are having wrecks desperately trying to get around and past her.
I bought a blackout sleep mask, store it in her glove compartment, when I ride in her car, I put it on, can't see nuttin, NADA, problemo solved. What you don’t know, can’t aggravate you.

That is what I do when 2 total bozos are playing and do not have a clue. I watch somebody else, read a paper, look at the wall, close my eyes and dose off.

And never tell any old fart at any senior citizens center anything. They already know all there is to know. They know a lot more about this, than you do? That is why I rarely offer anyone free advice unsolicited. It always ends up bad. The reward ratio vs insults are so bad, just don’t do it. Sit there, and let them go down in smoke, they are not your problem.

I had just done a double session in a closed MRI, on my lower back and on my rotator cuff injury in my shoulder. Not being able to move, both arms went to sleep and I went into serious pain in my shoulder.
So I dropped by the senior center to sip a cup of coffee and to settle down. Actually watching really bad people play, helps me to teach them when they actually come to me and spend money. I am able to get them doing things fast that will improve their wins immediately. Most beginners are in tunnel vision, and I try to open them up to seeing more shots and options.
