GPS

A couple had their car broken into while they were at a football game. Their car was parked in the area provided for the football fans. Things stolen from the car included a garage door remote control, some money and a GPS which had been prominently mounted on the dashboard.

When the victims got home, they found that their house had been ransacked and just about everything worth anything had been stolen.

The thieves had used the GPS to guide them to the house. They then used the garage remote control to open the garage door and gain entry to the house. The thieves knew the owners were at the football game, they knew what time the game was scheduled to finish and so they knew how much time they had to clean out the house. It would appear that they had brought a truck to empty the house of its contents.

Don't put your home address in the GPS. Put a nearby address (like a store or gas station) so you can still find your way home if you need to, but no one else would know where you live if your GPS were stolen.

I always keep my GPS in the trunk when I park, my trunk lock is sealed so no key can go in, nor can you dig in there. I open the trunk off my key pad code. I do not have a garage door opener. Come into my house when I am gone, my dogs will tear you to shreds.

MOBILE PHONES

A lady's handbag was stolen. It contained her cell phone, credit card, wallet, etc. Twenty minutes later when she called her 'hubby' from a pay phone telling him what had happened, he told her, 'I received your text asking about our PIN number and I replied a little while ago.'

She had not called him.

They rushed to the bank and were informed that all their money was already withdrawn. The thief had actually used the stolen cell phone to text 'hubby' in the contact list and got hold of the PIN number.

Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list by not using terms like ... Home, Honey, Hubby, Sweetheart, Dad, Mom, etc.

Anytime that sensitive info is being asked for through text messaging, confirm it by CALLING BACK.

Another scenario to consider:

If you receive a text message from any close friend or family member who is listed in your contact lists, and they want you to meet them somewhere unusual or in an isolated area, make sure you call back and confirm it is them before you go.

IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY.

On my cell phones, I have all access to text, in and out, disabled. If you need me, call me, I want to hear your voice. Then I know, who I am talking to.
