If I am playing hew haw, I could care less if you cheat on your score card, you are only cheating yourself. Many rationalize in their mind, I should have made that putt, damn spike mark, or ball hole deflected it off to make me miss. I really had a par instead of a bogey, so they write down a par. If they say they had a 6, when I know it was an 8, I write down the 6 for them. Why do I care. The scores they shoot and record are 5 to 10 strokes below their true scores. They want to appear, better than they really are, and can become. They never lose a ball; they just drop and not count the stroke. The older these guys get, the worse they become at this. When you reach old age, you then, are able to get by with anything.

The sandbagger cheats to produce a handicap score of 15, when he is really an 8 or 9, and he does it to win bets, to win prizes at the club tourneys. This is so flagrant, some clubs ignore their handicaps because most are a joke, and they use only the scores they log in those events and they handicap from those performances. Some won’t allow you to win until you have logged in several scores to form a good average. Sandbagging in Golf, Pool, is widespread.

Cheating is a part of the game and millions are doing it.
My problem is if we have a little bet going on, and most do, I don’t care if it’s some little $2 a side, if you cheat me, I am pissed. When it comes to money, you have to keep it honest and straight. When I begin catching the guy who has old timers memory disease and can’t remember his real score, when he blows a hole, he always manages to forget one or two of the strokes and hopes you were not watching and counting all of them. The same guy hits it into the woods 4 or 5 times a round and never loses a ball, because he is dropping one on you when you are not looking and not counting it and claiming any ball he comes across as his.

I don’t have the time, or the patience to babysit this morally corrupt bozo any more. Before I had to be watching and counting his every shot, he would say I had a 6, and I would say, maybe it was a 7, let’s go back and recount what you did. When he would hit into the woods, I would leave my shot, and go in there to help him hunt, to watch him so he could not drop on me. Some of these guys are really slick and will have a hole in their pocket they can drop a ball down their pants leg and it rolls out unseen, and he said, oh there it is.

I remember once in a big money match, this guy kept hitting it into the deep rough and finding his ball every time. I was carrying the bag of his opponent and went over to help him look. After a couple of minutes he says, here it is. I told my guy he was cheating him, dropping balls on him. He said, how do you know. I said, simple, my foot is standing on his ball.
You have to record the number of the ball he is using, and tell him he cannot change numbers unless he informs you. Next week, he will show up with a dozen titlists 3’s in his bag. It at least prevents him from finding any ball and playing it.

Now when I see a guy like this, who is an obvious cheat I can’t turn my back on, I just tell him privately there will be no bet between us, my bet with the other 3 will remain the same, because I can’t trust him, because I have seen him cheating. If that offends him, tough, fook him. If enough people have to guts to stand up to him, then he may stop trying to rob people in broad daylight.
