How long is Tiger. I used to love to follow Nicklaus and Palmer in the Tuesday practice round at Augusta becaue they always played with the current amateur champion. You could compare how good this new kid was compared with these two legends. The first year Tiger showed up, he was driving with a 1 iron and knocking it 50 yards past Palmer. The only other person I ever saw do that to AP, was Mickey Mantle, who could knock his 2 iron past AP's best driver the same distance. I saw Mick hit one 400 once, on a golf course. When Lefty first came out, on 18, he hit sand wedge in, AP and Jack hit 7's.
Tiger become totally dominate on so many levels it was not funny, but that's all changing now. At the 2009 masters, lefty was hitting it 10 to 30 yrds past Tiger all day long, and out shot and scored him. Bubba was driving it 30-to 40 past Tiger.
Technology is making everyone equal out there. They are all using the same type of drivers which are producing the same results. They are all working out with weights in the training trailers. They have all finally caught up to Tiger. Once they begin to beat him, then they lose their fear of him, and that is also going on now. The huge dominace Tiger once held, is gone. Winning for him now, will be much harder to do.
You will note the winner was 2nd in driving distance. Tiger did not finish in the top 10 of any of the important stats.
Driving distance
1, Bubba Watson, 313.0. 2, Robert Garrigus, 308.9. 3, Angel Cabrera, 308.3. 4, Gary Woodland, 304.6. 5, Scott Piercy, 303.5. 6, Brandt Jobe, 303.1. 7, Dustin Johnson, 302.7. 8, Nick Watney, 302.1. 9, Jonathan Byrd, 301.0. 10, John Merrick, 300.8.
Will Tiger win 6 green Jackets. Maybe. Will he win more majors than Nicklaus, maybe. I would like to see it. I would like to see him win 4 majors in one year, records are made, to be broken and it would bring excitment to the game. He has a decade to finish it off. But he has already blown his knee out. It all depends on if he remains healthy and his body holds up. He certainly has the desire and the talent to pull it off. If 2 or 3 new young Tigers come on the scene and begin winning everything, then it will not happen. That is what Byron did to Jug, Nicklaus did to Palmer. Stopped them in their primes.
