Straight in shot.

Put the mouse on the link, left click, with left hand, hold down the ctrl button down on the left bottom of you keyboard.

This is an example of what happens to you when you get straight in, and have to move the cue ball, cb, up table to the right. For most of you. You are a dead duck. Always create angles so you can slide the ball around. But you will mess up and leave this shot, or your opponent will on you.

You have to power out of this situation and that requires an advanced stroke, a really well hit force follow and force draw. Unless you are now about an APA 6 level or above these 2 shots will be beyond you. So when it comes up, pay the man, move on. Mid level players run into all kinds of shots they have no prayer on. I can’t teach you a FF force follow or a draw here, so if you have them, lets go.

Both shots require cheating the pocket and gaining the angle back, you lost. If the pockets are 5” great, 4 ¾” you have a chance if you are good, 4 l/2” I would play safe probably. When you hit the CB with a lot of right, it’s throwing the OB a lot left and you have to account for that.

SHOT (1) The force follow:

I have a world class stroke, and If I am on a new table, hot rubber, new 860 Simonis, I can get 9’ down table. Normally you use 1 tip up, 1 tip right. Use too much right and the spin kills the run. In this case being so low, you may have to increase the right English to clear the points of the pocket. The key to this shot is to keep the shaft level to the table bed, at impact and beyond. Jack up a little, and the CB jumps and it kills the run. You need a long follow through. For most of you if you get up to the side pockets that will be a good shot. Accept your next shot will be a hard one. You can cut, bank, play safe, but the closer you get to it, the better your odds become.

SHOT (2) THE FORCE DRAW

http://CueTable.com/P/?@3ANdR4PIVg3UNdR3Ub...kbuM1kEvg4uDSS@

This is the harder of the two shots, but the easiest way to get all the way up table. You have to hit the OB full, and pot into the left side. Most will not realize how much the OB will throw to the right, and the hit the right point and miss the pot. You have to get very low, and almost 3 tips out left, something only advanced players can do. This is a professional shot and I teach it in my school, but many mid level players don’t have the stroke for it.

The follow through should be very short, 1-2”, cock and snap the wrist into the shot, when the CB comes back and hits the first long rail, the English reverses and it literally blows up table off that rail. Most fail at this because they don’t get low enough and not far enough out on the ball.

(3) Rail first shot.

In our example the OB is too far off the rail, and the CB is too high up to consider this shot to be able to make it with any high percentage. But when the both balls are close to the rail and both straight in, going into the rail first, allows you to hit the left side of the OB and spin up table with ease. It takes a little practice to see and learn where to hit the rail first.

And here is a 3rd option for you.

On choice (2), do you use the closed loop bridge where you tuck the middle finger and wrap the index around the shaft with your nail on the table? which I believe is the hoppe bridge...

All force follows I have the ring finger tucked in on the closed loop bridge, on the force draw, I fold under the middle, the bird finger.
