Willie never put on a real trick shot show. His show was to come in, bang off about 10, set up shots, fairly simple, then get on to the main show, he would play a match to 100 with the local hot shot. Sometimes he might take on 2 or 3, trying to put on a high run of 100, to 200 plus, which he did a lot.
The first champion 14.1 player, to do a real show, an hour or more of shots, was Jimmy Caras. He put out a trick shot book in 48 and doing the show was a way to promote and sell the book. Mosconi was always happy to let a young Gerni do the trick shots, and set up his for him.
As WM got older, and was in his early 80's as you see here, he could no longer run balls and had to resort to all trick shots. He could not expose his self to the fact, half the guys in the room could beat him then. Here is an example of how bad he was at this. The 6in6 was invented by Joe Hood in 1908. You come in a couple hours ahead of the show and set these shots up. You lightly tap them in until you begin making them It might take, 5 to 15 mintutes to wire in this shot. The more balls, the longer it takes. So when you see my show, that shot is set and it takes me seconds to roll the 6 balls into the holes and then, any kid in the joint can make it, as its wired tight, had to miss it. So all the skill, is in the set up, not the actual shot. The entire show is set up in advance, so we go from shot to shot, quickly.
To walk into a show and spend 5 minutes taping and setting up this shot, is not only boring but BS, it show how lazy the guy was, and what you can get by with in a bar, with a room full of drunks who don't know squat about pool and are on a convention. You see the flakes, the edit on the tape, obvisouly he, she missed it several times and the shot they took, she even missed again, making 5 and you see Willie rake in the 6th ball with his hand. What a POS.
About the only thing I saw that was worse, was Jeanette Lee in Atlanta, tried this shot, missed it 3 times in a row, and said, its supposed to go, then missed 7 more shots in a row, saying, they are supposed to go here and there, shakes her tits and walks off. I went, hey Jay, here is a clue, you are supposed to make the fookin shots, not miss all of them, her nose flips up in the air.
So when you are willie, or lee, you get by with murder. Me, they make me make all of them, or they break my thumbs.
