open bridge vs closed

All I get to see over here is mainly snooker but most of the people that I see on TV here use an open bridge. I normally use a closed bridge unless I get in a spot where I need an open bridge. Which is better? And is the open more of a snooker thing where they get down on the stick with their chin and have a lot of long shots?

I personally use both and open and closed bridge depending upon the shot.

I'm with Sleuth on this one, I also use both depending on the situation and shot.

I will concur with Sleuth and Head. I use a closed bridge on power shots, break mostly, and an open bridge for finesse shots. So I use the open most of the time as I prefer a soft hit.

I've been trying to get myself to play whole games using a closed bridge. I use it so scarcely it feels awkward when I have to do it. I want to get more comfortable with it.

Actually as I remember when I was just starting out to play pool (A very long time ago) I was taught to use a closed bridge. I played that way for many years, but as I started a career, family, became an adult, pool took a back seat to life. But now in my current stage of life I have taken up the game again with great enthusiasm and really do enjoy playing as much as I can.
I have taken to using an open bridge now, but somewhat find it a little awkward but am getting more comfortable with it. I switch back and forth depending on the shot, if it is a more forceful shot as in a break or a harder than normal shot I tend to go back to the closed bridge for more cue control.
If it is a soft, or slow easy pot in or finess cue ball control type shot, I tend to use an open bridge. I also notice if I am going to attempt a shot that has a greater amount of english on the cue ball or a draw shot, I will again go back to a closed bridge. Just my observations as to what goes through my feeble brain before a shot.
Cheers

The Woim's opinion on this subject is very unscientific and emotion-laden.
The closed bride has always represented adulthood in playing pool and the sign of a great player.
Classiness. The closed bridge adds dignity to this game.

I always use an open bridge. I think you have to find what is the most comfortable to you. It has to feel natural to you or it just won't work.

I normally switch back and forth depending pon the need, but since i came down with this sickness my stick wobless a bunch since i now shake a lot. if i can get my brindge some one close to the end of the tip it is not too bad but if i have to streach at all i need to use the crutch. i am still learning how to hit with the crutch since i normally tried to stay away fom it. any tip one has a better idea on the brindge or using the crutch i would appreciate it.
