As some of you may know, here in the UK 'our' version of pool is slightly different to yours, played on 6 or 7ft tables with 2" balls. This was also my main game.

For the last couple of weeks I've been studying in London, building up to some exams related to my job on Monday and Tuesday (went very well, thank you for asking).

Near the college there's a pool hall that only has American pool tables, so I've played a few sessions there over the past couple of weeks.

Obviously I've played American pool before, but not all that much: it was always second to English pool and I never built up any consistency.

After a few sessions, I'm getting pretty good. Today we played a bit of 9-ball, but mostly 8-ball. I had 2 great runs at the break and finish, but they both fell down at the end. I'm also making bigger shots with more consistency and getting my position closer.

I'm now determined to get the break and finish. My break is working well, I'm making balls and spreading the pack well. If I can find an American table around here, I'm sure it's just a matter of time. Sadly there aren't any pool clubs in the area. Very frustrating!

Anyway, I love this game. I don't think you can really appreciate a game until you can play it well and do things consistently. I'm beginning to get there.
I have aspirations of becoming a reasonably good player and paying Fast a visit.

I need to find a table!
