Do you put your own tips on or do you let a pool shop repair man do it for you? If you do it yourself, why or why not?

I let a professional do it for the consistency of the hit between tip to tip and the quality of application. I like to make sure the tip doesn't come off.
When you are riding it
home, can see the finish line, don't spit da bit, begin beating the ass
with your riding whip and yell out like Tarzan, who's yo daddy. When
she screams FL, don't take it too hard, life goes on.

Never again!
I have changed a few tips and the results was always lousy. Doing a tip change by hand is very difficult just to get the tip to line up. Then you got to shave the sides with a carpet cutter and it's usually a poor result.
I also once had A.E. Schmidt (pool table manufacterers in the St. Louis, MO area) refinish and replace the tip on the only shaft my now retired Meucci cue had and it took them five weeks to return it.
Of course, now that I have a fairly novice custom cuemaker operating in a 2 mile radius from The Woim's home, I'll never have to worry about changing tips again.
Find a pro to do it for you. It's a minimal charge and he can do it in 10 minutes and with the buffing lathe a builder would have, it looks better than new when done.

I normally let a professional do it... I'm kind of scared to try it on my own. Chances are the tip is somehow going to end up glued to the side of the ferrule or something.
Last time he didn't sand the sides down properly though, but it wasn't that big of a deal.

A pro is some one that gets paid for doing a job and since he recived money I guess you would have to call him a "Pro". Maybe not a good one but still a Pro!!
