I am putting in my first pool table in my den and now would like to know what kind of lights to hang over it, it is a 9' table. Do I want regular light bulbs or the long sticks. How much should I spend on one.

None, those green shaded 3 lights are the pits, the incadescent light bulbs are hot, and are too close to your head, the lights shine in your eyes while playing.

Hang flourscent lights from your ceillng. Just put in the ceiling plant hooks, then hang the fixtures 6" from the ceiling. For a home 8' table, use two lights, turn them sideways across the table evenly spaced. For a 9' table use 3 of them, then you will have no shadows on the rails which is the test of proper lights. You can get by with two light fixtures, but if you really want it bright, use 4 lights. You want the same kind of lighting, in the ceiling you see in a office. Theirs is recessed, yours you buy a any home repair center and just hang them and the plastic shields now prevent the light glare in your eyes and being much higher as well you get a better light spread.

If you have the old 3 green shade one, sell it and replace it, you will be much happier with this set up. In most bars or pool halls you go into, you are usually playing in the dark, it is terrible how little they know or care about proper lighting. Most get these little short free beer lights and hang just one of them.
Go stand on the end rail and you can't even see to chalk your tip.
I was on a bar box recently and they had two lights over the table, each bulb was 20 watts, a total of 40. I have more light in my fridge or clothes closet than that.

I really like the Diamond unit I have. Has three 2 bulbs strips with 8' bulbs. It just about covers the entire playing surace of the 9' table and because of the grating the light is diffused straight down. When I was at Grady's last month he had one of the new Diamond lights. It has two strips and is about 60% as wide as the older like mine. Still does an excellent job of lighting the table.

That's the light, you see where your old lights used to be, all the way up on the ceiling, shorten the chains and see how higher up you can pull this thing. These are always hung too low and when you get next to the long rail and jack up your cue to hit a masse you cant because the butt of your cue hits the light. Raise it higher so that cannot happen. This obsession to have lights sitting right on top of the table is amazing. It is totally un necessary.

Hello MM

The lights you see above are not previous table lights.

The diamond light is set in accordance with the specifications provided on the Diamond Table Co website.

I really don't understand why you would want it up on the ceiling. :-? That is over 12 feet.

Here is a pic of table

Boy I appreciate this topic. I have just bought a 9 foot Brunswick and have been trying to decide what light to put over it. Right now I have all kind of shadows and not much light. I have always liked the tube lights but it looks like the going thing is the three shade lights and I have seen 4 shade lights on the net but not in the store. I just did not think I would be happy with them. It looks like the other post that would be the case. I am sure glad that you all did this before i made a sad mistake. These lights are not cheap now days either after paying all of that money and being stuck with some thing that does not do the job.

I think they are about 500 to 800. The Brunswick is better because its smaller. The Diamond is too wide. You cant make a masse shot on the rail because your butt hits the light.

In my previous post I was saying I have the Brunswick pool table and needing a light. In the store I seen the Brunswick three globe but did not see the tube light. I seen it on the internet and it sure looks good but the $1800 is a little pricey for me. I may have to make one at that price. : :)
