Could you give me an idea of whats wrong with my game? If i could solve this i probably could be a world class player because ive got the pocketing ability, position is great and i can think of shots and safeties most others would not see. But the problem is when i play im not thinking ahead i usually concentrate only on the next ball or two. I'll pocket my ball and get position on the next ball. But where the problem comes in is the pocket ive chosen at some point is the wrong pocket and i cant get position on the next ball without extreme force causing me to miss or lose control over whitey. How can i train my mind to see the pattern i must follow and be able to see it within say 30 seconds and not forget where whitey must be on every ball? :-o :-?

You need to do a table read and plan the entire rack when you first step up to the table. some really great players do not have to do what i do. when i read the table, i plan the whole run, then break it down in threes, the first three run, the second 3 and the last three. you are just not reading, planning the run far enough in terms of your plan

Also, could I offer some advice?
It sounds like when you're planning your position, you're thinking about the next 2 balls.
This means you can pot a ball, and where possible get position on the next ball.
But then you find you often have to work hard to get position on the third ball, yes?
If you plan position for the next 3 balls ahead, every shot you take (where you have 3 balls ahead of you),
then you can pot, get position to pot the second ball, and get position to come off that second ball in a way that gets you on the third.
So whenever you pot a ball, play for a certain type of position on the second ball that will allow you to pot 2 and get shape on 3.
(Then of course when you pot 2, you play for a certain type of shape that lets you pot 3 and get position on 4...)
Hope that helps you too...

Here is the trap from not thinking 3 balls ahead. FL came to my house and gave me this trap.As an sl3, later he told me that all of them take the bait but I did not.
I had an easy corner shot. The cb would come off the rail a bit for a not difficult rail cut into the adjacent end corner pocket. The the cb would come to a resting place where i would be snookered.
Since i look three balls ahead and do another table read each time I step back to the table, I saw that I could not get to that third ball and played safe. Not only that , but I had a choice on which of the two balls to play safe, so had to look at the table also to see which of the two choices would give me an advantage, or in this case, against a superior player, a fighting chance.
This is not the first time I have done this. I always nearly do this. That is why regardless of my skill level in apa, I am ranked in the league much higher in strategy. Too many do not begin to learn these things until they are sl4-5. Then as an sl4, or even a 5, they come against me, a person who started strategy training as a beginning player. That is why I can sometimes beat a player who plays a skill higher.
Make no mistake, if skills in shape and potting balls are equal, the player who has the best strategy and mental game will always win.
So Craig. tap tap.
