What is it that makes a Player GREAT

Being honest, a person who can be trusted to do what they say they will do.

Being able to accept defeat as graciously as he accepts victory.

Being one that places responsiblities to family and God above all else.

Without these his playing ability counts for nothing.

My league capt always says about me I'm lucky not good. But I have to disagree, yeah I know but hear me out. I know where the ball is going at all times, how I have no idea. But the fact is I do so I can do what I say I'm going to do. So I guess to be great you have to do what you say with a little luck thrown in. I guess that means you need skill and a horseshoe shoved up your ___!!

Tell your captain, this:

The more I practice, the luckier I get

Any one can be good, few can be lucky.

In Pool, luck is always a factor. For some, luck is a skill they have and you don't.

There are true lucky players and real unlucky players. Every one hates, a lucky player.

Every lucky person has a lucky penny, rabbits foot, something they depend on. They will even rub on it.

On the world 9 ball tour I play on I would say that at least 25% of the matches I play or see are decided upon luck and the roll of the balls. You can play a match and get every unlucky roll on earth and lose. Play the next match and get every roll there is. It can drive you nuts.

Bottom line, if you feel you are lucky, you are a winner. If you feel you are an unlucky player, you are a loser.

That's a cool way of thinking. I never really thought about it like that. I've been the last four years arguing I'm good not lucky. Now I think I'd rather be lucky. Just wish I was lucky in other areas of life not just on a pool table. Any ideas on how to make it rub off to the other things?

4 star general George S Patton Jr wrote that some people are born lucky, and its their fate to be lucky and successful as they have less Karma to pay off. Others are born unlucky and have more Karma to suffer through. He said you are only given so much luck and most never explor it or test it. They never use up their alloted amount. He felt you should keep pushing your luck until you run your luck well completely dry. Lucky people play their luck and depend upon it.

Paton had 60 wonderful years full of luck until his ran out at the zenith of his carrer in a car accident breaking his neck. He used up his last luck and his well finally ran dry.

Luck runs in all facets of your life, not just in pool. Just be bold and let your real self out and let it run free and luck will bless you to success.

Best Wishes,

i would think that i'd try to ration the luck out throughout my whole life.. but life is short

carpe diem

Also, you can't just relish on your luck. It's like the average joe winning the IPT based on the other guy scratching on the 8 ball the ENTIRE set, next tournament you're getting your ass kicked. Luck can only get you so far, just hope you don't get sharked.

When you are riding it
home, can see the finish line, don't spit da bit, begin beating the ass
with your riding whip and yell out like Tarzan, who's yo daddy. When
she screams FL, don't take it too hard, life goes on.

I think getting the rolls is a big part of shooting well. I also believe it has a lot to do with attitude. If you are playing poker and feel like you aren't getting good cards you won't get good cards but if you feel like you are hitting you will draw good cards. I think in pool there are some people who are just bound to screw themselves out os a game and some who just have the ability to come out ok by kissing off another ball or whatever. Who knows it might be a subconcious act that we actually do. In basket ball a lucky bank is called a shooters bounce in pool its called a shooters roll. Whatever you call it, if you got it flaunt it.

Cue ball control, pocketing skills, physical endurance, deals with pressure, has fun, powerful stroke, good eyes, and positive attitude.

...and quite possibly a jack russel terrier
