I have been in Computers 30 years, but most experience is with mainframes, and some with PC's.
My problem:
1) Got a 3.2 gig E-Machine with XP. My old one that broke down (Compaq) was running '98 because I liked the flexibility of the OS.
2) My scanner is a Visioneer 7600 usb scanner, and they have no upgrade for XP for it. I located a possible fix for it (.inf files), but had to install the originaL software.
Now, do I have to go to pains of locating where every file namesake is in my subdirectories on my machine is, and HAND REPLACE them with the files from the fix in order for it to work?
I am also told that '98 programs can run as is on an XP by selecting properties, and selecting a choice that says to run as a '98 program.
What is the best way to go?
