It was one of the two greatest secrets Greenleaf gave Mosconi that made him the greatest. WILLIE said nobody held the cue any lighter than Ralph did. You see Efren do that today. Ralph said, light is best, lighter is better, you can not hold the cue too light. Just let it lay on the fingers and get that wrist flicking, that is where it is all at.
You can't feel the cue, or be truly one with the shot, if you are squeezing down on it. Top golfers do exactly the same thing with their club as well.
