There's the Tiger X, McDermott Intimidators, Universal Shafts, Predators, and a couple others.

What shafts do you use. What would you recommend for others?

When you are riding it
home, can see the finish line, don't spit da bit, begin beating the ass
with your riding whip and yell out like Tarzan, who's yo daddy. When
she screams FL, don't take it too hard, life goes on.

I'd get the tiger x shaft because it creates as much english as the predator but costs much less. The prices are going up because they are getting popular. People have been known to break with this shaft without any problems. You can't do that with a predator. Well.. you can, but you will inevitably mess the cue up.

The OB-1 shaft ($176.00) is getting pretty good reviews.

The current question seems to be which cuemakers will tune up a OB-1 shaft with their custom butt and joint they make for an overall good simi-custom cue that matches (joint collars)???

I would recommend using the origonal shaft from your cuemaker. There seems to be too much hype on all of these shafts these days, when frankly, it's not the shaft that will make you play better--it's your hard work and desire.

I use whatever Mr. Black stuck on the front of the butt. I'm not good enough to tell the difference.

Hey Pel,
Most old timers in my league can shoot the lights out from under yer nose quicker than you can say..Hey I thought I left you safe. And most of the ole farts use cheapo Dufferin cues with 10 mil or less snooker tips.

Ya gotta play them ole guys smart. And you notice they never shoot hard?

Hehehe touche Pel...I was playing in my Singles league last night, against an old friend who just turned 86. He gave me quite a run for my money, got me right up to both of us on the eight ball. I prevailed, but it was one of my most enjoyable matches this season so far. It ended with actually the table taking the game away from him...believe it or not...the table had a slight drift away from one corner pocket and he shot slow, and it drifted into the horn of the pocket and sat there waiting for me to chalk up. It was an easy pot, but we shook hands at the table, had a great chuckle on the shoody table conditions and sat down together and had a bottle of water each. To me that is what playing pool is all about, a great match-up, a friendly outcome and some quality time with great shooters and friends.

I'm using a 25 year old ADAM Ritz AH-10 cue that is very nice. It is 19.5oz. with a 13.25mm shaft. While I am 6'1" and have long fingers the 13.25mm shaft always felt kinda large to me. I went on eBay and found a 12mm shaft with the proper joint and bought it. While it is not the best shaft, and certainly not even close to a Z-Shaft, Tiger-X in price (it cost me $70 total), the idea was to get some hands on experience with a smaller diameter shaft BEFORE shelling out big bucks on a name brand shaft I might not even like.

I was pleasantly surprised. The 12mm shaft plays fairly well and I had no trouble adapting to the smaller diameter. And while I had feedback from several players that the 12mm would play fine at first but that "they" soon found they could not control it, that has NOT been the case for me.

When I am not playing as well as I think I should, or not making the shots I know I can make, I might put the 13.25mm shaft back on for a few minutes but my primary shaft is now the 12mm. I will try the 11.5 FL suggests but probably not until after the first of the year.

So if you are now using a 12.75mm or larger shaft and you are thinking of sinking big bucks into a smaller diameter shaft such as the Z-Shaft or Tiger-X shaft or the like, think about trying a less expensive smaller diameter shaft first. You will always be able to use it as a backup and it will tell you immediately if you will be happy with a smaller diameter shaft.

I'm glad I did it that way.

There is so much truth in that my friend.

A team mate of mine just had an OB-1 shaft fitted to his Scrugg's cue. What a nice hitting shaft. He let me take a few shots with it on the warm up table. Very solid hit. Good price too, comes in under a Predator Z2 shaft by about 80 bux. Has a crazy ferrule on it. Go search the Inet for a look at them.

You could also search for a custom cuemaker in your area and have him build you a shaft.

Most custom builders are willing to build a shaft for a production cue and many of these builders could use the business.

The rich as Bill Gates MFers at Predator don't need the extra money for their overpriced and gimmicky shafts but that's the devil in me talking and not the nice guy you've all come to expect...

Custom builders will generally provide you with a finer quality maple wood and can make the shaft as stiff or as whippy as your heart desires.

Yours Truly,
The Woim

I even have some original footage of Wille Masconi and Minnesota Fats playing a match. I have matches of some of the other old time greats too, like Irving Crane, ect. I'm also a big fan of Efren Reyes, who is my favorite player and I have matches on video of him when he was young.

I agree that there is way too much hype out there and they love to toss up the "my deflection is less that your deflection" line. I never believed it, for the most part.
