any cue is good as long as you have a good stroke and a good tip

you should use one with a glove
When you are riding it
home, can see the finish line, don't spit da bit, begin beating the ass
with your riding whip and yell out like Tarzan, who's yo daddy. When
she screams FL, don't take it too hard, life goes on.

I have found that most of your department store cues are made of cheap materials and don't hold up. You would be better to go to like sports authority and buy a cue for like $40 that has a solid feeling in the shaft and is straight. I have one like that I now use as my breaking cue and I love it. I shot with it for years and won some tourneys with it, but have since moved onto something that I can juice the cue ball with. You don't want a shaft that feels like it is balsa wood. You want a good solid shaft that holds up to playing pool.

I've said this before, and have seen others say the same... the 'graphite' or 'titanium' cues from Wally-world shoot very well if you change the tip.

+1 on that. I have had a Halex Titanium cue for going on 3 years now. I had a LePro tip put on it and it has been in the trunk of the car for 2 summers, this will be it's third. It has not warped and shoots really good. I still prefer the feel of a smooth wood shaft, but it does a good job for playing at lunch time or after work.

My K-Mart was converted to a Sears store and they have a line endorsed by Steve "The Miz" Mizerack.
The same type of Titanium cue was 90 bucks. :-o
Hey a Mister...Okay If I grab a Cue?

I would't want to buy a cue from one of these types of stores, but if I had to, I'd go to SportMart. Much better selection than the rest of stores like that. They've got Lucasi, which isn't that great, but it sure beats those laser-pointer cue sticks you see at Big 5 Sporting Goods.

Would you just change the tip, or the tip & the ferrule? For the tip, would you go LePro or Moori? Also, that big purple behemoth that keeps flagellating himself, like the guy in the TV commercial-- Is that your self portrait? Is that how you "control yourself, before you control your opponent?", and get that "killer instinct" going? Man, if I looked like that, I'd try to take off some serious weight! Just kidding, no flame intended.

I hacked on a Talisman with a lot of super glue. It's not pretty, but it's solid. It's nice to have a beater to keep in the trunk.

Thanks, Web Dude, I never heard of Talisman cues. Some day, I'll be in K-Mart, and they'll make an announcement over the intercom... "Attention K-Mart Shoppers". The rest will be history. I really like the idea of a "beater" cue to keep in the trunk. My first cue is a $425 Schon STL-3, and I just leave it at home, and just use... you guessed it ... Dufferin house cues. Too afraid of getting the Schon stolen, warped, etc. The Guiseppe leather case was also a bit pricey.

I just got a minnesota fats cue from kmart. Its not shabby at all. Its got a lepro tip and plays fairly well for 20 bucks. I end up using it more than the McDermott I have!

Thanks, Nick447. You mean that cue had a LePro on it when you bought it at K-Mart? Or did you install that tip afterwards?

Web Dude never replied, so I'll reply for him. I'm sure he meant that he put a Talisman tip on his cheap cue. I know that he likes the Talisman tips :-) I myself had a laminated one that came apart way too soon, but after reshaping it, I haven't had any trouble with it. I think the gist of this thread is to get a cheap cue that feels good, and put a decent tip on it being that's where most of the results are (the business end of the cue, that is), and you're good to go. I have yet to do this, but I was checking out the cues at WalMart recently, almost got one. I've got a LePro tip with precious little use sitting around.

Thank you man, I appreciate the effort you made, that was most commendable.
It is great to be able to log on to this discussion board, and to be able to talk to a pro like Larry, and even kid around with him, and enjoy the discusssion. He's a great guy to talk to, also a great talent, and he speaks the same language that that the rest of of us do. I don't understand the negativity on RSB. Larry, you're great, keep up the good work man, don't worry, we'll pay for it it, what an extraordinary pleasure it is to to be able to joke around with a pro like you!

That's a suprise to me, too, Nick. I generally don't associate too much "quality" with that fat Rudolph guy, what was his name?? Wanderone or something like that. I associate "morbid obesity" with his name, more than anything else. He was pretty good on TV, but not so hot on a pool table. You have any ideas who the best celebrity pool players are these days? Gleason's dead. Jerry Orbach's dead. Cruise is alive, but how good was he? Color of Money was 20 years ago.

Interesting. Thanks. I think the rich and famous tend to play golf more than pool, but this is not a hard and fast rule. I'd rather not know whether K-Mart has any deals on golf clubs. Ignorance is bliss, so's to speak.
