Cue butt vs shaft

Several manufacturers spend a lot of engineering time on the butt, but generally it's way less important than the shaft. You may have to pay an expert to properly match the new shaft to the butt (particularly on an older one). Given the sentimental value, I'd go for it.
If you don't know what joint style you have (you'll need to know that), here's a reasonably decent set of pictures of different joints: http://www.seyberts.com/pool_cues/shafts.p...id=2&brand_id=4
Most of the really expensive butts are really just expensive because they're "pretty". I found this out the hard way :-) I bought a flashy cue, but if I'd have known at the time, I'd have saved about $150 if I'd have bought the low end of the line (it is kind of plain, but just as good - I didn't know that - I thought "the money must buy you SOMETHING").

Awesome... That is a great site by the way.
I totally agree. The shaft, ferrell, and tip are WAY more important that the butt of the cue. If you have a sentimental cue that you want to shoot with and have good performance, send it out to predator or someone like that and have a high end shaft matched to the butt. I am preparing to do that with a cue I have (it is a players I think). Good luck.

Quite honestly, order a new shaft. and if doesn't line up, have someone machine it it for you.

Now that is the million dollar question. There's nothing cheap out there, really. The cheapest replacement shaft I've seen is around $140. I'm sure there are others. Did you determine which joint type you have (from my link above)?

Hmm - you're saying the butt is warped? That's pretty unusual I think.

Just saw that you won a cue. Congrats! I guess this becomes a non-issue then :-)

that cue has a lot of sentimental value to it..
Maybe you can hang it up on a wall or something
Maybe you can hang it up on a wall or something
When you are riding it
home, can see the finish line, don't spit da bit, begin beating the ass
with your riding whip and yell out like Tarzan, who's yo daddy. When
she screams FL, don't take it too hard, life goes on.
