home, can see the finish line, don't spit da bit, begin beating the ass
with your riding whip and yell out like Tarzan, who's yo daddy. When
she screams FL, don't take it too hard, life goes on.

But it's amazing how quickly you can pick it up again. I spent a few days back home with my family a week ago, and met up with some of the guys from my old pool team back there. One of the guys is phenomenal. He's a really consistent finisher and a very strong tactical player.
He always brings the best out of me, because he forces me to play tactically, never take on any low percentage shots that would leave him a finish, and concentrate on my whole game.
Even using my old cue (which I keep back at my family home - my usual one-piece makes train journeys a little difficult), I got back into the game quickly, the mental control came to me easily (thanks Fast!), and I was competetive, taking frames from him, as always.
It's a great feeling to know that although a forced lay-off can take you a little out of stroke and bring the edge off your game, the core skills remain, and you can get up to a decent standard pretty quickly.
I remember reading that if you exercise regularly, consistently, for 6 months you'll stay with it forever, since your body becomes physically addicted to the feel good chemicals exercise releases. So even if you do leave regualr exercise for a short while, you'll always be drawn back to it.
Perhaps it's like that with pool - it becomes almost hard-wired into the brain.
Fast, I've missed you too!
I know I've been a little on and off here since I had to step up work on my uni project a few months ago, but it feels a long time even since we were talking green tea.
I'm still on my four cups a day, by the way :-)
Trying to make room for a little red wine too :-D
Hopefully I'll get into full work soon, and back on the rails, so to speak, with the pool.
One thing I have identified for work is my position. I realised that while I've worked occasionally on position specifically in drills, it's usually been in the context of running balls. Even when I worked on the L-drill and taking out balls lined up in front of the middle pocket in sequence, to be honest I didn't have the right attitude to setting tight targets. They just felt like hard drills, where I'd try for perfect position, but wasn't really pro-active enough in forcing myself to learn and improve.
Ah well. In these last few months I feel I've learned more about life than in many years.
