I'm sure like me some of you have hung that 8 or 9 ball after sucessfully running the rest of the rack. And we all know its because you are playing position except on the last ball so it changes your rythm just enough to cause you to miss. All the old instructions tell you to imagine another ball to shoot during your last ball. That never worked very well for me. What I do is I walk around the table and set the chalk down on the rail somewhere between the pockets and when I shoot my last ball I play position for the cueball to hit the rail close to where the chalk is. It works wonders for me. Give it a try.

In the same pattern you could try to place the cue ball in a hard to play position for your opponent just in case you miss it...

Great suggestion Dom.

One other thing you could do Irock is to play Larry's 3 ball drill over, and over, and over, and over ..................

It works.

I find that I still plot where I'm sending the white to an extent anyway - on some shots the white will run, and you need to be sure you won't scratch.

Even on a basic stop shot, you can still select where to leave the white.

I do still have problems on the 8 though. I found that I had become paranoid about varying from my normal routine, which inronically introduced that distraction that was different to my normal shooting process.

For me the way to minimise this problem seems to be to accept the imperfection, then minimise it by puting it to the side, relaxing and focusing attention on the table as in my normal routine.
