Fast Larry,

When I was learning to play many years ago, there were no computers with helpful boards like this or hardly any instructional videos, and the ones out there were just about the basics. All the really good players didn't share any secrets with anyone. The shot they showed someone one day could be the shot that knocked them out of a tournament the next day. So it would be hard to blame them. It must have been awesome chatting with some of the greats that you got to spend time with.. I am looking forward to the instructional videos and just wanted to say thanks for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us.

It was really tough from what a lot of old timers have told me when they came up. Very few books and the top players would hold back things, even mis direct you to prevent you from coming up. Today there is an exposion of information and that is no longer possible which is one of the reasons playkers today are better than the players of the past.

Its true in the past it was very hard to get any useful instructions from the very good to great players. I will agree that there are more better players now than years ago. But I don't believe the players of today are better than the players of the past. I think the records that were set back then and haven't been broken yet somewhat prove that. Find an old VHS of Luther Lassiter playing Irving Crane sone 9 Ball and you will be in for a treat. One of my favorite players of today is Corey Duel, he is extremely talented. I do think the young guns of today have given pool the shot in the arm it needed. If the great game of pool is going to get the recognition it deserves its going to need all its great players of the Past. Present and Future.

The players of the past were based in 14.1, that was their first game and greatest love. The records they set, can never be touched by the kids of today. These old timers had to be forced to give up 14.1 and learn to play 9 ball. Most hated it and never loved the game.

The new breed today I see out on the UPA TOUR I am now competiting with are scrary. They are so much better that the last generation there is no comparison. That's my call and that is hard for me to write but its true. All these kids have ever know is 9 ball and they have become very talented at the game. So much so, they have virtually retired 98% of all the former stars of the past simply because they woke up and realized they can't beat these kids and going to future events loses money for them rather than making money like happened in the past. The top 15 of the new UPA, are now unbeatable by the stars of the past. The mantle has passed and a new crop of stars is emerging. This is good, as this pushes the old aside so youth can have their turn at it. 9 ball is a young mans game, never doubt this. It takes young eyes and nerves to win. When you turn 50, you are toast.

That's what the man said, even Nicklaus had to hang it up one day in golf, Efren will as well.

Get a good teacher, coach, take lesson once a month for a couple of years. Have him tell you what books and DVD's to watch.

Practice well. Play people better than you. Work on the mental side of the game.

And God Bless you all, I wish all of you success and you to become champions.

Any one who is willing to teach others, what they know, and give good advise that helps them advance, should be appreciated. That includes FL, and the members who post here as well. Others before us, gave us their time and knowledge. We should pass that along freely.
