Fast, would you tell me about Ralph Greenleaf's Golden Angle system?

I've picked up a little about it, but would like to learn the full concept.

Thanks

It's not very complicated, first, be fearless and run up close to your work. All your shots are short shots. 2nd, keep a slight angle or cut on your shots so you can slide over to the next ball or use the long rails to go back and forth. You just keep maintaining that same angle, angle to angle and avoid getting straight in unless that is the shot to get to the next shot. All the great players like Buddy Hall do this.

I have been using this idea with a lot of personal success. I also have an APA 6 on our team who uses this idea with a lot of success. It is a pretty simple idea to follow, but you need to have some pretty good speed control to make it work. I have had some trouble getting the other players on the team using it. But that is another issue.

Hey FL, any ideas about encouraging the other team members to do some more of the right things? We are in the running to make a good run at Vegas this year and I don't want to screw anything up.

Thanks, it does seem pretty simple.

Is it always one specific angle, under Greenleaf's system?

No, not a specific angle all the time. The gist of the idea is to not be straight on unless you want to be. To always leave yourself some angle is to always be able to get shape on the next ball (what ever that means). If you get straight in and don't mean to be, you will have to force follow or draw out of the situation to get back to shape. It is a simplistic view to developing the table into a run out. It keeps you from ending your runs prematurely. It is not intended as a complete system, but a piece of another system. Just a simple idea to follow and allow yourself more opportunity to run the table.

Good luck,
Craig

While the floggings may be fun, I am not convinced that they will be effective... Maybe I am not flogging properly...

The golden angle is great, but never overlook the power of the stopshot, or a series of stopshots, when running the balls. Don't forget that Fast Larry ran his record rack of 15 balls using the stop shot at an integral part of his strategy.
Zing it in... :-D

Oh, don't get me wrong. There is a place for all sorts of shots in a run-out , but the "golden angle" is a good goal to reach for. Just a way to keep you from going straight in with the possibility of scratching.

I love a good stop, draw, and stun shot. I use them regularly in my game, but I also try to use them in conjunction with the angles. Just makes it easier to control the cue ball.

Right, angle to angle might work for 2 or 3 shots, then you go into some thing different.
