Fl responds:
Ah so Grasshopper very true. Your only concern is to fight a good fight. If you give it 100% of what you have then winning or losing no longer matters. You will lose some but win many more than you lose.

That is so true, I took out Stricklin in 93 at the BCA show in Kansas City by breaking and kept making combinations on the 9 early on winning rack after rack. I had just beat Sigel two in a row and Earl walks up and say’s I’ll handle this. I said I get the break, he says that will be the only shot you are going to get; I said we’ll see about that. I never ran past the 5 ball once. He never got to shoot and eventually went nuts especially when everyone around him began to cheer for me and laugh at him getting his butt kicked. I kept breaking and moving the 9 towards the left corner using my spin break and just kept going after it and knocking it in early. After about losing 5 or 6 in a row, he said you are the luckiest sob on earth and I ain't playing you no more. I said, the more I practice these combos Earl, the luckier I get. He broke down his cue and stomped down the aisle. Had I played the traditional game of trying to run out with him, I would have lost, because he is vastly superior to me in that mode. I knew that and reversed it on him successfully.

The next day I went up to Earl at his booth and said you want a rematch with me. He said sure, I can't wait to. He said you first play and beat Joann Parker, she is the current U.S. Open women’s champion. You beat her you get to play me. He said to her, don’t play this guy 9 ball, play him 8 ball. Bad move Earl that was my best game. I took her out 5 in a row and Earls sitting there saying, you lost again to her, over and over. He gets up and whispers drop this bum in her ear which I heard. Earl is starting to hyper ventilate. She leaves me about an 85 degree table length cut playing safe, smiles and said let’s see you cut that in Fast? When I rolled in the 8 off the impossible cut, Earl who’s sitting there signing autographs drops his pen and leaps up. Earl then stares at me with these wild eyes he gets and walks off saying I ain't playing no head hunter leaving a line of fans waiting for autographs just standing there wondering what in the hell that was all about watching him stomp off down the aisle in a huff.

Fear of losing twice in a row to me who I was then a total unknown total nobody at his first BCA show, was too much for Earl to even contemplate and I probably would have taken him because I had totally mentally screwed his head deeply and now embedded fear of losing to me inside him. He could see this, he feared this. He could clearly see that I had no fear of him. He could see I wanted him bad.

My teacher Jimmy Caras and also Irving Crane and Willie Mosconi, all three told me the same thing, 90% of the matches they ever played were over and they had won before the first ball was struck. The opponent was so fearful of them and in such awe; they were coming to the table with their abilities crippled. Once they put a nice run on the guy, 90% of the opponents folded on them faster than a blue light special K mart $3.00 card table. Fear took 90% out, think of that. Only 10% were able to put up a decent fight where they had a chance of winning. These top people expect this, see this every day, they depend on you doing this, and when it does not happen, they go oh boy, what is this; I have a ringer on my hands.
It reverses back on them and not always in a good way for them. You then can play mind games with them. Earl and I are now good friends but we only play trick shots with each other, he has never asked to play me 9 ball since then. Joann and I later did a couple of gigs together and she then retired marrying a rich guy who owned a big hotel. I went on to become a performer at the BCA shows like Earl, doing shows and accepting challenge matches.

If this worked with Earl, this will work with your big time apa 6 and 7's you so fear and who dominate you now. Just attack them, with no fear; they are not used to that. Stare them in the eye, like in the Rocky movie, eye of the Tiger. So you see the #1 player and world champion can be humbled with this method, I am proof of this.

I beat most opponents in Karate by installing fear. They know I can knock a man out with a single blow and I hit like a mule kicks that brings on fear when that is known. I am like Tyson, I am going to try and get you very quick. They know if they take a big guy past 4 or 5 rounds they have them but they fear them early on. They know they can lose in round one on one punch. I am 6’ l” with 17” arms, 50” chest and 250 lbs. The only way to fight me is to run from me. You go toe to toe with me early on you will have a tag on your toe.
I fear no one because all I have ever fought or trained with have been 6th degree black belts since the 60’s. My current teacher is a former world champion. What can you possibly toss at me I have not seen and cannot and have not dealt with, so I have no fear of you and can attack any weakness that appears? Same in pool, I was trained also by the best there was, hall of famers. When Mike Tyson came out, I did not think any one could beat that guy, but I was wrong, ask Buster and Evander. Once fear of him was gone, he was up for grabs. He was just a man. They ran from him and wore him out then in the later rounds he dropped like a baby.

In Karate in pool, it’s like the Wild West; there is always somebody better, stronger and faster than you. There is a constant new graduating class of hot sticks and fast guns coming on line every day. When you have no fear, none, they can fall. It is all about controlling and eliminating fear. Just keep saying this over and over during a match, no fear, no fear, breath deeply in the chair saying, no fear, no fear. It’s all about simply having, no fear.
